CalOptima is a separate public agency created by the [County of Orange|Orange County] to manage the Medi-Cal program in our county (CalOptima provides health care coverage for Orange County residents who are eligible for full Medi-Cal). Medi-Cal is a public health insurance program for low-income people including families with children, seniors, persons with disabilities, foster care children, pregnant women, and low-income people with specific diseases such as tuberculosis, breast cancer or HIV/AIDS. A County-organized health system, CalOptima serves more than 770,000 OC residents. CalOptima was formed in 1995, and today has grown to be the second largest health insurer in Orange County.
